Music

Here at Centenary, we love music old and new in all its wonderful variety

A picture of Anthony Balder sat at the organ within the Centenary Methodist Church in Boston Lincolnshire

The church is blessed with one of the largest 3 manual organs in Lincolnshire which sits proudly looking out to the 1200 seater church. It’s used regularly to accompany Sunday worship, community ‘Songs of Praise’ events and to make baptisms weddings and funerals extra special.

There are two Monday lunchtime organ recital series each year (March-May & Oct-Dec) attracting leading organists from across the country. No better way to spend your lunch hour! The church also has a glorious Bechstein grand piano (1890s) which was acquired in August 2021. You’ll hear it played during services, solo concerts and during the Summer Season of Music on Wednesdays evenings.

Centenary Singers meet every Friday 4.30pm-5.30pm to enjoy learning a wide range of pieces from Elgar to Elton John. Most recently, the group took part in the Gala Concert which started the Summer Season of Music. The group was set up by our Organist and Champion of Music, to encourage singing and to take part in services and concerts during the year. No previous experience of singing in a group is required, just willingness and enthusiasm to make music with others and commit to a regular practice. There’s a charge of £5 per session which goes towards our music funds and Centenary Singers is open to children and adults.

Reviews

“We’re so glad we included Anthony to our special day.  He showed genuine interest in us a couple, and his organ playing in the church was immaculate, creating the perfect atmosphere for our special day.  We highly recommend him” - Dave & Adele

“Anthony played perfectly on our wedding day, no requests were off limit, and was so accommodating and easy to organise from start to finish.  In particular, the initial pre service music was perfectly in keeping with the mood of the day and it also eased my trepidation as I waited at the altar.” - Ross & Lara
